2025 Better Design Award Design-Empowered Innovation Talent Matchmaking & Industrial Design Workshop Successfully Held in Meizhou

In order to implement the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government’s initiatives on advancing the “Hundreds of Counties, Thousands of Towns, and Ten Thousand Villages High-Quality Development Project”, uphold the strategy of strengthening the manufacturing sector, and accelerate the development of a modern industrial system, as well as to actively respond to the Action Plan for Industrial Design Empowering Guangdong and the special initiative for industrial design empowerment in eastern, western, and northern Guangdong, the 2025 Better Design Award (BDA) – Design-Empowered Innovation Talent Matchmaking & Industrial Design Workshop was successfully held in Meizhou on December 19.

The event attracted over 100 representatives, including outstanding project teams from the competition, industry experts, upstream and downstream enterprises from Meizhou’s local distinctive industrial value chains, industry associations, and social organizations. Wu Wenyu, Member of the Party Leadership Group, Deputy Director, and Third-Level Researcher of the Meizhou Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, and Chen Meisheng, Second-Level Researcher, attended the event.

The event, themed “Industrial Design Empowering High-Quality Development in Eastern, Western, and Northern Guangdong,” integrated industry service resources such as design institutions and academic experts. Through activities including industrial research, results exchange, design sharing, and industry discussions—alongside a concurrent showcase of outstanding design works—the event aimed to accelerate the transformation of design outcomes, empower Guangdong’s high-quality development through design, and support the accelerated implementation of the “Hundreds of Counties, Thousands of Towns, and Ten Thousand Villages High-Quality Development Initiative.”

In his remarks, Wu Wenyu, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Meizhou Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, stated that Meizhou is committed to enhancing the competitiveness of the “Hakka Capital Intelligent Manufacturing” brand.
He expressed the hope that this event would serve as an opportunity to promote collaboration between local manufacturing enterprises and outstanding design institutions as well as university design teams, accelerate the implementation of cooperation intentions and innovative design solutions, and enable high-quality design outcomes to take root and bear fruit within Meizhou enterprises.

Design-Focused Sharing Sessions

During the event, several design experts delivered speeches, including Zhou Luping, Founder of Shenzhen Jixing Creative Design Co., Ltd.; Zhong Jiwen, Manager of the Rural Revitalization Division of Shenzhen Rito Creative Community; Liu Jiaqi, Project Manager of Shenzhen YUTO Packaging Technology Co., Ltd.; and Li Cheng, Deputy General Manager of Shenzhen Bipeng Cultural Development Co., Ltd. Their presentations addressed topics such as the transfer of high-end consumer product design logic, rural revitalization and regional brand building, green and intelligent packaging transformation, and the conversion of urban cultural IP, sharing practical experiences on how design can empower industrial upgrading.

Industry Roundtable Discussion

The industry roundtable was moderated by Du Hemin, Deputy Dean and Professor of Shenzhen Technology University School of Design and Innovation. Participants included Zhu Baoshou, Party Branch Secretary and President of the Meizhou Food Industry Association; Zhang Weisi, Deputy General Manager of Meizhou Zhenbao Golden Pomelo Industrial Co., Ltd.; Wu Guodong, Deputy General Manager and Industry Product Manager of Guangdong GT Ultrasonic Co.,Ltd; alongside other representatives from Meizhou’s local industries and design experts from Shenzhen.

The discussion focused on three key topics: “Industrial Foundations and Design Breakthroughs,” “Brand Upgrading and Value Leap,” and “Platform Innovation and Ecosystem Co-Building.” Participants explored in depth how design can empower the development of Meizhou’s specialized industries, enhance product added value, and strengthen brand competitiveness.

2025 BDA Design Excellence Exhibition

A special 2025 Better Design Award Design Excellence Exhibition was organized during the event, presenting a selection of outstanding competition entries from renowned enterprises and design institutions. The showcased works spanned key sectors such as electronic information, smart home solutions, smart cities, and green ecology, vividly demonstrating the vital role of industrial design in driving industrial innovation and development. The exhibition provided Meizhou enterprises with forward-looking design insights and inspiration, receiving widespread attention from participants and visitors.

Industrial Research Visits

Prior to the workshop, participating representatives conducted on-site visits to Meizhou Sunfull Metal Products Co., Ltd., and toured the former residence of Lin Fengmian. Through first-hand observation of the production processes, craftsmanship features, and rich cultural and artistic resources of Meizhou’s representative manufacturing enterprises, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the region’s industrial foundation, design needs, and cultural context. These visits laid a solid practical foundation for subsequent design empowerment and cooperation initiatives.
