He received his B.E. and M.E. degrees from the Department of Automation, Tsinghua University, and his Ph.D. degree from the National University of Singapore. 
He is a Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and concurrently serves as Deputy Director of the Institute of Robotics and Autonomous Driving at the Tsinghua University Zhuhai Innovation Center.
He has worked successively at the National University of Singapore, Seagate Research, Hitachi Research Laboratories, and the WD Advanced Technology Development Center of Western Digital Corporation. 
In 2005, he assisted in establishing the Hitachi Asia Research Institute and served as the founding Director of the Storage Dynamics Laboratory. 
In 2010, he assisted in founding the WD Asia Advanced Technology Development Center and held the positions of Executive Director and Chief Engineer.
He is currently Chairman and Chief Technology Officer of Ningbo Wildschütz Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. 
He has been honored as an "Outstanding Contributor to Leading the Innovative Development of the Robotics Industry" and "Most Influential Figure in the Artificial Intelligence Industry" by the National Enterprise Credit Reference System.
